Mature Market Experts Gem of The Day: Baby Boomer Steve Jobs Turns 54

Mature Market Experts: more mature market news and stats more often: Yesterday Baby Boomer and cancer survivor Steve Jobs turned 54. As one of the people most responsible for shaping a generation, Steve offered some incredible insight on two important topics . . . how to get back up after getting fired (a pretty timely subject in this economy) and the power of death. This commencement speech which he gave at Stanford University is worth the 15 minutes of your time.

PS     Steve, if you read this, please fix this IPOD problem for your Baby Boomer fans.

PPS   I like Mr. Job’s mention in the video of the “Google” predecessor.

Mature Market Experts Stat of The Day: The Mature Market Online

Boomer / Senior / Mature Market Stat of the Day – “Baby Boomers also go online more frequently than do most Americans. Seventeen percent of adults ages 35 to 54 log on more than once a day, compared with 12 percent of non-Boomer adults, reports Mediamark Research, Inc. Twenty-one percent of Boomers go online once a day, versus 16 percent of non-Boomer adults. And Boomers spend a greater amount of time online as well. According to data from comScore Media Metrix, Baby Boomers (adults ages 35-54) spend more time online than any other demographic group. Not only are more of them online, but they go on the Internet for more time – an average of 22.2 days per month versus an average of 15.2 days per month for 18- to-24-year-olds. The average Baby Boomer spends more time online than any other age group.”

Understanding how seniors “see” online is essential to your business’ success. Perhaps the strongest “online aging simulator” I have ever seen was developed by my TR Mann Consulting partner David Weigelt and his team. I promise you, this is well worth seeing.
