Mature Market Experts Stat of The Day: Life-Long Learning

j0309098Does the mature market lose its appetite for learning?

“In the UK, only 32% of adults aged 55–64, 17% of adults aged 65–74, and as few as 10% of those aged over 75 regard themselves as learners (The National Institute of Adult Continuing Education, 2006).”

Personally, I don’t believe we lose our desire to learn as we age. I just believe it’s just not as easy to measure our learning methods as they become less institutionalized. I would bet that the over 50 crowd is one of Amazon’s most profitable book buying segments. Hmmm … sounds like a stat for another day. I would also bet that online universities that make more formal learning fun, affordable and social will reap the rewards and loyalty of the mature market!
