Mature Market Experts Stat of The Day: Shortage of Geriatricians

Boomer / Senior / Mature Market Stat of the Day – My marketing consultancy, TR Mann Consulting, is considered a bit of an oddity because we have a geriatrician on the team. When asked why, my answer is always the same. Given the exploding mature market, I think you’re crazy not to have one on your team regardless of your company discipline.

Since 2000, the number of geriatricians in the U.S. has dramatically dropped by 22% to a lonely 7,100 (given these numbers, you can see why I consider myself lucky to have Dr. Applebaum on my team). It is expected that by 2030, there will be just 8,000 geriatricians. All this despite the fact that we’ll need about 36,000 to cover the workload as the American mature market continues to swell.

And it’s not just geriatricians where there will be a shortage. Any industry servicing boomers and seniors should seriously be planning for a labor shortage.
